— Niantic Starts Global Alliance for 5G Augmented Reality Apps

AEC Consumer Products Monitor

The coming 5G networks globally will be featuring some terrific augmented reality apps, if Niantic’s alliance of telecom companies has anything to say about it.  Privately-held Niantic is headquartered in San Francisco, first established in 2010.

Niantic, and a blue-chip group of major telecommunications companies, has formed an alliance to create and deploy 5G-ready augmented reality content for mobile users worldwide.   Niantic is the creator behind the hit A/R game “Pokémon Go.”  Initial alliance members include Verizon, Deutsche Telekom, EE, Globe, Orange, SK Telecton, Softbank and Telus.   With 5G, download speeds for such A/R apps may be has much as 10 times faster than with 4G.

An informative article about Niantic’s plans is available at Mobile Marketer in a September 2, 2020 article:  ‘Pokémon Go’ creator Niantic starts global AR alliance
